Contemporary Abstract Artist

BIO

Viktoria Daneva is a contemporary artist born in Moldova in 1982. She currently lives and works in Italy.

At the core of her artistic practice is an exploration of memory, human experience, and processes of inner transformation. Through abstraction, colour, light, and layered painting, she explores the lasting changes shaped by time, lived experience, and emotional memory. Rather than depicting events themselves, her work focuses on the traces they leave behind and the way they continue to shape our perception of the world.

Her work has been exhibited in Moldova, Italy, and the United States and is held in private collections around the world.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My artistic practice explores memory, inner experience, and processes of transformation. Rather than depicting the visible world, I am interested in the traces that time, emotions, choices, and human relationships leave within people, spaces, and materials.

People are transformed by decisions, encounters, love, loss, and lived experience. Spaces retain the presence of those who have passed through them. Nature moves through continuous cycles of growth, decay, and renewal. Materials also change over time, preserving the history of their own transformation layer by layer.

This idea is reflected in the process of painting itself. Layering, scraping, imprints, and exposed underlying surfaces are not simply technical gestures, but metaphors for memory. Each new layer does not erase the previous one. Instead, it becomes part of a shared history. The past never completely disappears. It continues to exist within the present, shaping perception and emotional experience.

Through abstraction, colour, light, and texture, I seek to convey not specific events, but their emotional imprint. Observations of nature are one of the sources of my visual language, yet the works do not attempt to represent nature directly. They emerge at the intersection of memory, personal experience, and the physical act of painting, transforming individual experience into a universal visual language.

Painting remains the primary medium of my practice, while drawing, collage, and other materials extend the same artistic investigation. Each new body of work does not replace the previous one, but deepens an ongoing exploration of memory, time, and human experience through an evolving visual language.
